Salisbury, Md. (Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014) — Perdue Farms’ associates in Salisbury were the top fund-raising team for the 2014 American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Wicomico County. Associates contributed $32,270 toward the $234,479 that was raised during the campaign to support the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. The Perdue team includes associates from its Corporate Office and the Perdue AgriBusiness office in Salisbury.
“Thank you to the Perdue Chicks Relay for Life team for their hard work and year-round fund-raising support for Wicomico County’s Relay for Life,” said Renee Stephens, Wicomico County Relay event chairperson. “They were the top fund-raising team for the fourth year in a row in Wicomico County. The support by the Perdue team is invaluable in making a difference in the lives of cancer patients in Wicomico County.”
The Wicomico County Relay for Life was held Saturday, Sept. 19 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
“At Perdue, we have a long history of supporting the fight against cancer through Relay for Life, not only in Wicomico County but throughout many of the communities where our associates live and work,” said Danielle Cordrey, a Perdue Relay for Life campaign coordinator.
Cordrey led all individual fund-raisers for Wicomico County Relay for Life in 2014 with $8,825. “Unfortunately, like most, I too have been personally affected by cancer and I feel participating in Relay for Life is the best way to honor the memories of lost loved ones and to honor and support those still fighting the fight. If I were to get cancer one day, my hope is that there would be people fighting the fight to find a cure for me,” she said.
Since 1997, Perdue associates have contributed more than $367,757 to support Relay for Life in Wicomico County.
Throughout the year, Perdue associates support Relay for Life by participating in a variety of fund-raising activities, including a basket and handbag bingo, the Shorebird Metric Century Bike Ride, a golf tournament, painting events and luminary sales, as well as Relay for Life. “We’re proud to be a partner with the American Cancer Society and help end the suffering of so many from cancer,” said Cordrey.
