Perdue teams up with Phillips Wharf Environmental Center in Maryland to support environmental education in Chesapeake Bay region

Salisbury, Md. (Tuesday, May 5, 2015) – Through a unique partnership with CBS EcoMedia, Perdue is once again helping address a critical need in the Chesapeake Bay by supporting local nonprofit Phillips Wharf Environmental Center’s Fishmobile program. The Fishmobile program travels to schools and events throughout the region to provide a 50-minute structured environmental education program to children all year long. Perdue funding is supporting the customization and retrofitting of Phillips Wharf’s new Fishmobile, which is projected to impact more than 40,000 pre-K through third-grade students.


The partnership was announced during Bay Day, a Phillips Wharf Environmental Center-led environmental education festival featuring information and perspectives on a full range of Bay topics, including living shorelines, native gardening, rain gardens, oyster restoration, energy alternatives and environmental stewardship. The festival was attended by staff and executive leadership including Vice President of Marketing for Perdue Foods Gail McWilliam, Executive Director and Founder of Phillips Wharf Environmental Center Kelly Phillips Cox and CBS EcoMedia Senior Vice President of Operations and Strategic Partnership Development Theresa Schieber.

“We applaud the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center for its environmental education efforts through the innovative Fishmobile, which helps young people appreciate the wonders of the Chesapeake Bay. We are pleased that our support will allow the Fishmobile to continue to take its important message about protecting the Bay across the state,” said McWilliam.

“The Perdue-Phillips Wharf Environmental Center Partnership is a great opportunity to create a new handicapped-accessible Fishmobile for taking our Chesapeake Bay Animals on the road to schools and events. Thanks to Perdue for helping us with this initiative and enabling us to create more stewards of the Chesapeake Bay,” said Cox.
