Perdue donates 38,000 pounds of protein to Central Pennsylvania Food Bank

Salisbury, Md. (Monday, June 8, 2015) – Perdue Farms has donated more than 38,000 pounds of chicken and turkey to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. This donation is part of Perdue’s commitment to donate two million pounds per year to Feeding America-affiliated food banks like the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. This generous donation will be distributed through the food bank’s network of more than 800 partner agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other agencies serving families facing hunger. The donation has a retail value of $90,000.

Over the past 15 years, Perdue Farms has donated 46 million pounds of poultry products nationwide through Feeding America, the network that provides much-needed help to 60,000 food pantries and meal programs, including the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

"At Perdue Farms, we believe that no one should have to go hungry. That's why our partnership with Feeding America and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in the shared mission to end hunger is so important,” said Dick Cole, grain marketing manager for Perdue AgriBusiness in central Pennsylvania. “We're happy to deliver this truckload of products to help those."

In April, Perdue donated 10,000 pounds of chicken and turkey products to the food bank. In 2013, Perdue provided a $10,000 grant through its Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the charitable giving arm of the company, to help Central Pennsylvania Food Bank fight childhood hunger.

The number of people needing food assistance in central PA remains at record levels. One in seven people, including one in five children, don’t have access to a stable source of nutritious food. The 38,000 pounds of donated poultry will provide center-of- the-plate protein for more than 100,000 meals and help individuals and families struggling with hunger in the 27 counties served by the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

“The continued support of Perdue through this generous donation is extremely vital to us because it is a healthy source of protein that we will distribute to people struggling to put food on the table,” said Joe Arthur, executive director, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “In central PA, hundreds of families face the daily anxiety of not knowing how they will feed their families. This donation will go along way help provide a nutritious meal for those struggling with hunger.”
