Perdue Donates 30,000 Pounds of Chicken to Support California Wildfires Relief

Salisbury, Md. (Tuesday, August 21, 2018) — Perdue Farms and its brands are responding in a cross-country effort to help provide relief in Northern California as deadly wildfires continue to devastate communities in counties north of its Petaluma operations.  

As part of its partnership with Feeding America®, Perdue shipped more than 30,000 pounds of frozen, fully-cooked tenders, strips and nuggets to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in Concord, Calif., to help people displaced and recovering from the historic wildfires. The shipment arrived at Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry operation in Petaluma, Calif., last Thursday afternoon, and Perdue’s COLEMAN NATURAL® brand stepped in to deliver the donation to the food bank the next morning.

“So many Californians have endured heartbreaking losses in the wildfires,” said Matt Junkel, Vice President of Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry operations, home of the local ROCKY® AND ROSIE® brands. “It was just a year ago that so many of our Sonoma County neighbors endured tremendous losses in wildfires, including many of our associates. We hope this donation of convenient, fully cooked chicken will provide some measure of help in the recovery. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragedy.”

The donation will provide approximately 25,000 meals to individuals and families in the region.

“Natural disasters can be devastating for families.  It is critical that we provide support to people as they recover from these tragedies and begin to rebuild their lives,” says Karen Hanner, vice president of manufacturing product sourcing at Feeding America. “Feeding America is thankful for Perdue’s commitment to fighting hunger and for supporting communities when they need it most.”

As Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Executive Director Larry Sly explains, “This generous donation will be incredibly important as we provide food to those in the Redding area who are doing everything possible to recover from this disaster.  I am grateful that people at Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry care for their neighbors affected by this enormous wildfire.”
