Each of our major operations has an environmental scorecard to measure compliance, sustainability efforts and associate involvement. The scorecard drives continuous improvement, with facility and company goals for water reduction, recycling, energy conservation and CO2 emissions.
Environmental stewardship is part of all associates' annual company goals, and our management bonus programs are tied to our stewardship results.
Each major location has a Green Team of salaried and hourly associates who champion recycling and energy conservation efforts. Through grants and volunteer hours, we support a number of grassroots environmental projects, groups and programs, including the Oyster Recovery Partnership, Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and Project Clean Stream—the last of which now includes waterway cleanup efforts at almost 100 companywide locations across the country.
As part of each Perdue facility’s Environmental Sustainability Scorecard—which factors into management compensation—each location is required to undertake an annual Facility Sustainability Project. The projects must show a reduction in emissions, wastewater, natural resources consumption or solid waste.
The projects also engage associates in sustainability efforts and further instill environmental stewardship into the workplace culture.
